Project
It is not always easy to keep track of the political positions of parties and candidates. smartvote addresses precisely this issue and aims to help voters make fact-based electoral decisions. To this end, it creates a transparent information base. Using an election-specific questionnaire on a wide range of political topics, voters can compare their positions with those of the candidates or parties/lists and receive a voting recommendation.
The online voting aid smartvote has been in existence since 2003 and is developed and operated by the politically neutral, non-profit association Politools. Smartvote has already accompanied over 350 elections at local, cantonal and national level.
Smartvote has also been used in elections abroad (e.g. in Bulgaria in 2005 and 2007, in Luxembourg in 2009, 2013, 2018 and 2023, in Australia in 2019, Austria in 2024 and Kosovo in 2025).
